A Narrative Practices Organizational Mindset
When a Narrative Practices Mindset
Becomes Culture: Language in Everyday Organizational Life
This insight emerged from the doctoral research of Founder Lillian Moya, whose PhD work explored the narrative practices of the Apni Shala Foundation, an education-based organization in Mumbai, India. Through qualitative analysis, the research found that narrative practices were not limited to formal programs or interventions; instead, they became embedded in everyday communication among staff, educators, leadership, and the broader community. Over time, the language of narrative practice—centered on reflection, strengths, and shared stories—began to shape the organization’s culture, influencing how individuals understood challenges, supported one another, and engaged with the community around them.
Dr. Lillian Moya, founder of The Ellipsis, has signed a Book Contract for the forthcoming scholarly work: Between Two Shores: Cuban Identity, Culture, and Belonging in Miami.
The book will examine Cuban identity formation in Miami through a combination of oral history interviews, archival research, and analysis of primary historical sources. The project documents the lived experiences of Cuban communities across generations and explores how migration, cultural memory, language, and intergenerational storytelling shape belonging within the Cuban diaspora in South Florida.
The research will be conducted over a 16-month research and writing period and will draw from interviews with members of the Cuban community alongside archival materials, historical documents, and community narratives.
The work will be authored by Lillian Moya, Ph.D., founder of The Ellipsis, whose research explores narrative practices, culture, and human-centered systems within organizations and communities.
